I just heard that a cryptography professor at Indiana University had his house raided and was fired. Don’t know much more. https://www.heraldtimesonline.com/story/news/local/2025/03/28/fbi-department-of-homeland-security-agents-search-house-in-bloomington-indiana/82710451007/
@matthew_d_green I’ve heard (from someone I trust) that his university web pages were all taken down and colleagues don’t know where he is.
@adamshostack @matthew_d_green Can you see my reply? Or is it online on infosec exchange?
@ljean @adamshostack @matthew_d_green Your other reply is showing under your Posts and Replies tab from your profile, but not on this thread (or at least not with Mastodon « official » app—I know, I should use a different Mastodon app)
@ljean Has anyone been in contact? I hear he’s been missing for two weeks and his students can’t reach him. How does this not get noticed for two weeks???
@matthew_d_green @ljean I have heard nothing, official or unofficial, from the Informatics administration.
@matthew_d_green I noticed immediately and have been trying to get information. I have been re-assured that he is in the US, has not been charged with anything, and is well. I completely understand him not wanting to talk to people with all this legal uncertainty. Silence tends to be the advice of lawyers.
@matthew_d_green Part of this is that, it happened right before spring break, a day before I got on a plane. So there were no meetings nor official actions for the first week. And I have been unable to have any f2f conversations.
@ljean @matthew_d_green if he has not been charged but has been removed...smells political, no?
