You know what we’ve never had in the arc of history from the Dot Com Boom and Pets dot com, to the mobile web and “there’s an app for that”, to Web 3.0 and crypto and the metaverse and AI chatbots telling you everything?

We’ve never had a “waiting room” app or website. It could sign up doctors’ surgeries and dentists and hospitals, and over the last 25 years it would’ve informed you of the BARE MINIMUM of information “you have X mins remaining / are required to return to the waiting room / have progressed to X in the queue”

In 1998 that would have been via dial-in automated voice. In 2003 it would have sent you an SMS. In 2008 it would have been with an app on your smartphone. In 2013 it would have been with a really good app — giving walking directions, ETA on demand, and notifying each other of location. In 2018 it would have been with an optional watch app so you don’t miss your appointment and can work in an office while “waiting for a doctor”.

It’s 2023.

Honestly I would have LOVED it if we had 25 years of frustrating anecdotes about how unreliable the estimated time remaining was, with stories of how it underestimated or went up as well as down.

Because by now we’d have known how to live with all that. We’d cope. So much more than now.

It’d take almost nothing for one company to be a defacto monopoly at this.

The income from medical establishments would be a fantastic revenue model? Small ones would have sweetheart freemium subscriptions, meanwhile large ones would need to buy the enterprise package.

Oh my and imagine all the ad revenue and tracker info we’d be discussing by now. “Of course we all know we can’t live without WaitR / RoomR / WaitRoom, but concerns do exist that this company knows too much about our medical history” — yet here we are, no such thing

2023: We are adding AI to our world-famous waiting time estimator.

@whophd What's amazing about this is that Great Clips (haircut place) chain has this for getting a haircut. My county tag office.
But not the medical community.
