" #TaxCuts for very rich people leads to less revenue then cuts to the public sector. This is presented as being 'inevitable' but it's a choice which leads to a decline in quality & accessibility of public services. Then governments swoop in to offer #privatization as a viable alternative."

1/3 Sometimes I desperate a little bit about Mastodon. I read often the nagging that #media wouldn't do enough against #ClimateCrisis. I search the great idea #the89Percent or #89Percent and find 1 post only!
It's a project led by 500+ media outlets from 60 countries that aims to amplify the “silent climate majority”—the 80–89% who want urgent #climateAction but don’t realize they’re not alone. Many great and important articles. A great idea published around the globe in many languages. You can

⏳ The countdown has started:
On May 15, we will launch the 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿, a new dashboard using open, high-resolution data to inform local climate action.

Today, we introduce 𝗵𝗶𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸, one of the dashboard’s key tools, which assesses the walkability of cities and towns.
With hiWalk, you can evaluate the safety, accessibility, pleasantness and convenience of pedestrian paths.

In my previous post (👉🏼 climatejustice.social/@breadan) I mentioned that when a canary in a coal mine dies, it means the miners are in extreme danger and must get out immediately.

For us, the canary is coral reefs, and they are now dying.

But where can we go? We can’t escape the “coal mine” we live in.

We have to stay on Earth. There's no running away to Mars, a ridiculous Tech Bro fantasy that will never happen.

So we're stuck here, with each other. But there is some good news. We *can* help each other.

Here is a place to start learning how...

Irvin Rivero is the E-Mobility Associate at Acterra, whose work is engaging and educating local community members about the benefits of electric vehicles to accelerate the use of clean energy, reduce carbon emissions, and lower air pollution caused by conventional combustion vehicles. Through multilingual Acterra events and workshops, Irivin educates community members about clean energy incentives and shares financial resources and opportunities offered by local government and energy providers to increase the adoption of electric vehicles. Upgrading appliances, buildings, and vehicles to those that operate on clean energy instead of fossil fuels is a meaningful way to invest in climate resilience and reduce emissions. Irvin shares, "At Acterra, we focus on local climate solutions. If we can change a community by reducing carbon emissions, it's part of the solution for the whole planet." When speaking about the "doom" we may feel about the climate crisis, something that helps Irvin feel more hopeful is the power of collective action to address climate change, which starts at the individual and community level before building momentum to deliver a much bigger impact."

"The San Francisco Bay Area – home to nine counties, more than 100 cities and towns, and over 7 million people – exemplifies climate leadership, environmental justice, and innovative renewable technologies. It is a model for how cities, residents, organizations, and businesses can work together to respond to the intensifying regional impacts of climate change, from heat waves and wildfires to flooding and rising sea levels. As a global hub of diversity, culture, and technology, the Bay Area has enormous economic, social, and political power to address climate change in ways that ripple across sectors and the world. The land known as the Bay Area is the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary Native homelands of the Muwekma Ohlone, Chochenyo, Karkin, Ramaytush, Yokuts, Miwok, Southern Pomo, Kashaya, Patwin, and Mishewal Wappo."

"❓ So what’s next?
This weekend was just the beginning. The Fast Track is waking people up. It’s uniting communities, whānau, and climate defenders across the country. We’re building a movement that’s ready to rise up - again and again - against corporate exploitation and climate betrayal. It’s carrying on the legacy of over 150 years of Māori-led land back movements here in Aotearoa."

InstagramClimate Liberation Aotearoa on Instagram: "🔥 Our blockade at Stockton Mine ended this evening. For over 60 hours we stayed in coal cars and prevented Bathurst Resources’ mine from operating. All climbers, part of a 70-strong protest encampment that spanned generations, from eight months old to 74 years, have been charged by police alongside five other protesters for Trespass. We’ll keep fighting this mine. We’ve stalled at least two days of coal extraction, sent a clear message to Bathurst and the government, and shown that people are ready to resist the Fast Track Act and the climate-wrecking projects it enables. ⛏️ 💨 Bathurst Resources want to mine Denniston Plateau and remove 20 million tonnes of coking coal that will be sent offshore. Their open cast mine will destroy this beautiful wild space and all the creatures that live there. Support has poured in from across the motu, and local folks have backed us by bringing baking, offering places to sleep, and sharing their own frustrations with the mine. Our resolve is stronger than ever. The climbers’ action prompted a response from Resources Minister Shane Jones, who attempted to justify coal expansion with misleading claims about domestic energy needs—despite the fact that the coal in question is for export. This isn’t just about one minister, his comments reflect a deeper truth: this government is doubling down on fossil fuels at the exact moment we need to be scaling up renewables. The encampment, which included people from Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Nelson and beyond, has now disbanded. In total, 10 people have been charged, four of them had also been arrested. ❓ So what’s next? This weekend was just the beginning. The Fast Track is waking people up. 🌍 I'll be speaking at the Climate Obstruction in Finance WG on April 24 at 4 pm GMT (11 am EST / 5 pm CET). I'll discuss how financial firms perform accountability for their carbon emissions without truly addressing them. Join us to explore who gets called to account for carbon emissions in finance.

"Deregulation of the industries is what allows #OilAndGas companies to do pretty much whatever they want, take the profits & leave a mess behind without any real consequences. Political parties often campaign on #TaxCuts but what they usually mean is tax cuts for very rich people."
