Doof nur dass #Fairphone das nach dem #FP3plus #downgraded hat...
I really like my #Fairphone 5 - it's reasonably fast, everything i need works (mostly without GAFAM as far as i can get atm) and i intend to use it for a long time.
But there is one "downside" of using a niche phone:
I want to attach my phone to my bikes, but all the cool kids (#PeakDesign, #SPConnect, #QuadLock) don't have specific cases for the Fairphone. I could go with an universal adapter, but alas i'm not sure if they will work fine (and safe) with an ordinary TPU case.
Welp, #FairPhone are offering a discount on the FP5, which probably means the FP6 is due soon.
But my "I'll take that display model you're throwing away soon" Xiaomi PocoPhone F1 from 2018 is slowly dying, and I think 7 years is a reasonable duty cycle for a phone that was abused in the shop before it landed in my hands. My Fairphone 2 only lasted like 3 years, if I recall.
So I pulled the trigger on an FP5. I hope I can actually get 7 years out of it this time.
Sometimes it happens, that some pictures i did, are not saved on my Android device.
Pictures before and later have been saved, but some are missing. This happened today on my #fairphone 5, but i had this issue also before on other phones. No idea why.
The battery was really low (~7%} but pictures i took later, were still saved.
Does anyone know this problem?

@levi @GrapheneOS From what I understand, GrapheneOS is pretty critical of #Fairphone due to its lack of security features that GOS needs.
That said, if they could put their differences aside and work on a new, privacy & security focused phone designed for GrapheneOS, it would be a win win: GOS gets early access and an actual GOS approved device, and Fairphone gets help building a truly private and secure device running one of the best mobile OSes out there. It would be amazing!
So what #Phone should I get? /e/ seems to be out so the #Fairphone is out as well. So I guess it will be an older 2nd hand #Pixel and #grapheneos
@GrapheneOS have you asked #fairphone ?
If you’re curious about alternatives to #BigTech, this video review by @Techaltar is very insightful and mainly focuses on @tuxedocomputers laptops with their own fork of Linux / @kde, #Fairphone smartphones with the Android fork /e/OS, and the @nextcloud office suite.

Hello everyone,
Soon, I need to look into getting another phone, as Android updates for my phone have stopped, so it's just security updates.
Unsure what the cutoff is, but I assume it's in the next year or two.
I'm lookingat potentially getting a #fairphone
What do people think of it? Any particular issues?
@dazo @MarionDonnelly @murena @e_mydata @red_rooster @georgetakei and you can even repair it down to component level since #Fairphone actually releases the documentation for that!
As much as I dunk on #Fairphone for #downgrading every device since the #FP3plus, they at least live the "#SchematicsOrDie!" principle and actually deliver #Schematics, #BoardView and #ComponentList on their website in a publicly accessible #PDF...

In all seriousness tho: they ain't perfect but the best there is in terms of "you csn buy this right now in stores" kinda brand that isn't some obsure crowdfunding thingy but has an actual track record!

@murena #Fairphone with @e_mydata preinstalled?

There you get a more ethical phone where the hardware supply chain is being worked on to improve the situation for all the workers and countries where material comes from.

In addition, the OS does all it can to help you avoid being tracked and your data being more private.
The default laucher on /e/OS (which Murena Fairphone ships with) also got an iPhone launcher feel, just there.
So with the price being 1/3 of the iPhone before the tariff surcharge ... it's a a much cheaper option just there, and you won't pay with your data either - which is another huge win. On top of that comes the goodness these companies tries to do to make the digital world a better place to be ...
@benjiButo
I did several testrecordings: with my old Smartphone (Samsung S7), my Notebook, the Fairphone5 (without + with Headphones connected via official FP audiojack adapter). The Fairphone5 sound is terrible muffled, high frequencies are missing at all. I send the recordings + Frequencyanalysis to Support. Support ask me to send in the Fairphone (but I need it everyday for work+private, and I wonder if they can fix this... )
Maybe bad sound comes from the used encoder, hopefully not from a bad hardware (microphone).
"I would exchange the Mainboard, but guess what? It's the only part you can't order."
Exactly, support told me so too... :-(
I like the idea of the fairphone. I also own a fairphone 4. but honestly the service sucks. When talking on the phone people don't understand me because the sound is muffled and there is a lot of echo.
This is a know issue since FP 3. Also the brand new FP5 has it. So basically a lot of users have a phone that does not work as a telephone and the only thing the customer support offers is "please reset to factory defaults".
