For a project I’m testing, I need to add auto-follow of an account for new account signups on my #Mastodon instance. I know that was officially dropped a few years ago, but has anyone put together a script to do this by either being triggered when a new user signs up or checking via cron job every so often? I'd be grateful for the code if you have! #MastoAdmin

Given the state of the U.S. /weary/ I need to prioritize some long-delayed things. I've asked this before and dug around, but couldn't find any confirmation/denial. I don't know what country my server (Mas.to) @trumpet is based in. I think it'd be best for me to be on a server hosted elsewhere if it's not.

If you can help with info on my server or a safer alternative, please let me know.

Hey everyone,

Just a heads-up: scammers and spam bots are getting craftier by the minute, and even the most cautious among us can slip up. I got an email out of the blue saying my Mastodon account had been hacked, and it urged me to “contact the JBee Spy Team” at conleyjbeespy606@gmail.com, on Telegram at +44 7456 058620, or via Instagram to get things sorted.

A good friend spotted the red flags and confirmed it was a scam—sadly, lots of people have already fallen for it. What’s crazy is that the scammers are using AI‑generated videos on Instagram to look legit, and Instagram still hasn’t banned the impostor account pretending to be the “JBee Spy Team.”

I’ve deleted the email, blocked the sender, and reported the Instagram profile, but I wanted to share this so you can stay safe, too. If you get anything like this, don’t click, don’t reply, just block and report. Spread the word so nobody else gets caught out!

Wenn ich ein Video abspiele (Vollbild) und dann das Handy ins Querformat drehe, wird das Vollbild verlassen, das Video gestoppt und das UI springt wild irgendwo hin.

@Osma A 🇫🇮🇺🇦 Sounds like Phanpy fixes what Mastodon doesn't even acknowledge as an issue.

But your comment kind of demonstrates to me how not even Hubzilla supports "shadow mentions" (because it didn't need them when it was made, seeing as it supports enclosed threaded conversations): I wasn't notified about your comment, I only saw it as an unread message.

I guess I would have been notified, had I participated in this thread from one of my (streams) channels. (streams) and Forte are more geared towards a Fediverse that doesn't support threaded conversations all over, one that's dominated by Mastodon and mostly used for Twitter-style minimalist microblogging.

Ideally from a Mastodon POV, these "shadow mentions" should include everyone in the current branch of the thread. Ideally from a threaded conversations POV, they should go as far as mentioning all participants in the whole thread. But that kind of "black magic" would scare quite a few Mastodon users out of their minds unfortunately.
