Rebecca
Alright. It's going to be HOT in SE Australia this weekend. Remember that staying cool is the aim. Here are some tips:

1. Libraries will be open, are free, have books, comics, maker spaces, AV equipment, etc and are air conditioned.

2. Shopping centres, if you have one near you, are also air conditioned and often have seats dotted around the place. You may feel obliged to buy food/drinks but you also need to eat/drink so doing so while comfortable is good.

3. If housed, please keep your curtains and doors closed to provide an extra layer of insulation between you and the hot outside.

4. If you have air con, this is a good time to use it to stay cool.

5. If you have fans, use those with a tub of cold water and ice in front of it, or with a damp towel on yourself.

6. Go and freeze a damp towel, shirt, hat, sarong, whatever now so that you have something to help cool you down

7. You can shower to help cool you down as well.

You need to stay cool because heat is deadly.

8. If you have vulnerable neighbours or family, check in on them during the day

9. If you're in a city (Adelaide/Melbourne) with trains, you can ride the trains all day. They are air conditioned and you get to see the city, and possibly meet other people hiding from the heat

10. If you or someone you know has signs of heat exhaustion, call 000. Also know the signs of heat related illnesses. Heat kills

https://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/public+content/sa+health+internet/healthy+living/protecting+your+health/environmental+health/healthy+in+the+heat/heat-related+illness+signs+symptoms+and+treatment

11 (last one). If you see any unhoused people on the streets, point them in the direction of a library or shopping centre to stay cool.

What other tips do you have?

#Heat #Weather #MelbWeather #AdelaideWeather #Hot
