A warm damp Sunday #running with Coxhoe on the run. Started showery but too warm for rain coats . We were a little damp by the end and stayed mainly on the roads and made up paths. Tomorrow looks ok in the morning so I'm hoping to get out rowing before the storm hits us later in the morning.

Another Friday #sculling on the Wear. Warm up, heads piece then up and in. Today with the aid of wellies, the water levels have dropped to the point that boating off the landing risks damage so we are wading in and boating from there. Not ideal but the lack of rain seems to be exacerbated by a breach in the weir below the cathedral along with an open or damaged sluice at the old fulling mill.

Another Wednesday evening running with Coxhoe on the run. Very warm to start but cooled down nicely by the end of the run. Some detours leading to an odd arrow pointing to Cassop. A lovely evening run although we did end up covered in flying ants on one path through the plantation. Home for dinner and some fantastic chocolate brownie courtesy of my son who breaks up reading impenetrable philosophy books with anime and baking.

I've been hearing their cries while #running for a few days now, and today I finally managed to catch them with maximum zoom on my Google Pixel: a pair of buzzards! Unfortunately, the quality isn't great, but that's the best I can do with a mobile phone.

Otherwise, a nice 15 km/500EG trail run in the morning and perfect weather. And my Garmin is happy with me too, certifying that I'm finally back to Superior 😀

Durham city 10km 47:20 gun time 46:32 chip time slightly better than a minute faster than last year. It felt warmer, really humid and 6km before the water point was a long way. I also made the mistake of having some gummy sweets before the run and was close to stopping feeling sick at 6km. I had enough energy for the finish around palace green. Great views of the cathedral not that many of the runners would have noticed. Awful goody bag with chicken, gelatine squashy sweets and turmeric nonsense. I continue to have a love hate relationship with the course especially south street and the run up to palace green.
Photos may follow.

Today I wanted to push myself a little bit, so I ran my usual 15 km on a different route, with 650m EG instead of the usual 500m while keeping my pace below 7. I've managed that a few times before on the same route, but unfortunately it didn't work out today, maybe also because of the jungle like trails 🤪

Still it was a nice run, including some spectators who watched me sweat with complete disinterest 🐄🐮

With the current #heatwave across Europe, for me it's only possible to go out #TrailRunning in the morn when it's around 20C

Now, at 5.30pm, as I write this, my simple outdoor thermometer shows almost 43C. And that's at almost 1000m altitude!

This is not only unusual for June, it's extremely unusual. Frightening to see all these predictions about the #ClimateEmergency coming true. And yet "Don't Look Up" seems to be the political mantra of quite a few

Today, I only managed to do a shorter than usual 11 km trail run, as I had to pick up my wife from physio, where she got dry needling treatment. It's a bit like acupuncture for grown ups and, how can I put it, not for the faint hearted. Those needles!!! But apparently very effective 🤪

It's not even July yet, and even here at around 1,000m in the mountains, it's above 30°C... you can only run properly in the morning.
