✨ Family history surprise! ✨

On this day in 1872, Alice Maud Thurnham was born. She and her sister Jane “Jennie” Thurnham moved to Bridgwater in 1918.

I came across them while searching for other information, completely by chance.

My grandmother was a Thurnham and my mum has always said that Thurnham is such an unusual last name that we are related to all of them.

The New Zealand Legal Information Institute (NZLII) website contains a vast collection of various legal documents such as case law, Acts of Parliament, legal journals, Royal Commissions and, most importantly for any genealogist wanting to research their family in Aotearoa, the New Zealand Gazettes from 1845-1999. The Gazettes contain a wealth of information relating to individuals in all sorts of 'official' capacities.

To search just the Gazettes, use this syntax with your favourite search engine: 'search_term' site:nzlii.org/nz/other/nz_gazette

I am home taking care of family members with COVID and I am bored AF. And I was thinking this might be a good time to work on the thing (book?) I am writing about my Dad's life but I am having so much trouble with motivation for the writing part (as opposed to the researching and thinking about it part). And I was wondering about using this account as a way to sort of micr-blog my writing. I feel so much more motivation when I've got an audience, it doesn't matter how small the audience. Has anyone tried this as a tool for writing motivation and want to tell me how it went/ is going?

We went to the Antiquarian book event at St. Paul today. Found myself a larger version of the Leavitt "History of Leeds-Grenville" The hard copy reproduction I did have was way too small to properly read esp. the maps and photos. The original was still larger but this is much better! Bonus, none of the reproduced notes someone had made on the original before reproduction!

N.B. Province of Ontario has it online aims.archives.gov.on.ca/SCRIPT
