"Capitol Police arrest 60 parade protesters, including vet using a walker"

nbcwashington.com/news/preside

“If you want to thank me for my service, don’t make it a hollow platitude or empty words,” one veteran said. “My service was to preserve and defend our Constitution, and now we’re seeing the president betray our service.”

It's okay for #MAGA #Insurrectionists to storm the Capitol building, but watch out for those dangerous 80-year-old veterans using walkers! WTF!

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCJB) - "An elderly man from Gainesville was one of dozens of veterans arrested outside the U.S. Capitol Building as they protested against President Donald Trump’s military parade scheduled for Saturday.

"U.S. Capitol Police confirm #JohnSpitzberg, 87, of Gainesville, was arrested for crossing a police line during a demonstration on Friday.

"Officers say around 75 veterans were protesting peacefully outside the U.S. Supreme Court building. Later, a group of about 60 left and officers began establishing a perimeter.

"That’s when officers say the group pushed down a bike rack, crossed the police line, and moved toward the Rotunda steps. Officers blocked them and began making arrests.

"Video of the incident shows officers arresting an elderly veteran using a walker with wheels and a chair. The man appears to be Spitzberg.

"Police say all 60 individuals will be charged with unlawful demonstration and crossing a police line. Some will also face additional charges of assault on a police officer and resisting arrest."

#Antiwar #veterans and #military #family members broke through #Capitol barricades in #Washington DC to protest against #Trump’s military parade for his birthday and the use of active-duty troops against anti #ICE

InstagramH I P M A G A Z I N E on Instagram: "On Friday, dozens of antiwar veterans and military family members broke through Capitol barricades in Washington, D.C., protesting President Trump’s military parade and the use of active-duty troops against anti-ICE demonstrators. The group—led by About Face: Veterans Against the War and Veterans for Peace—staged a sit-in on the Capitol steps, where chants of “Veterans against fascism” rang out before Capitol Police moved in to make arrests. Roughly 60 people were taken into custody, including at least one elderly veteran using a walker. While the protest began peacefully near the Supreme Court, the group later surged past police barricades, drawing a swift response. Most were arrested for crossing restricted lines or unlawful demonstration. Organizers say the action was meant to confront what they call an authoritarian shift in the U.S. government—highlighted by the presence of Marines detaining civilians in Los Angeles and the militarized spectacle of the parade itself. “This isn’t about honoring service—it’s about consolidating power through fear,” said Brittany Ramos DeBarros, an Army veteran and lead organizer. On social media, others echoed the sentiment. “The veneer of democracy is fading away,” wrote veteran @gregjstoker, calling the parade “authoritarian-esque.” The military parade, held to mark the Army’s 250th anniversary, moved forward Saturday with full fanfare. But for many watching, it wasn’t a celebration—it was a warning. #CapitolProtest #VeteransAgainstFascism #MilitaryParade #Trump #June13Protest #CapitolPolice #CivilDisobedience #ICEProtests #VeteransForPeace #Authoritarianism"hipmagazineorg on June 14, 2025: "On Friday, dozens of antiwar veterans and military family members broke through Capitol barricades in Washington, D.C., protesting President Trump’s military parade and the use of active-duty troops against anti-ICE demonstrators. #Trump has always been a contradictory commander in chief, one unlike any other in American history. A graduate of a HS #military academy, he never actually served in the #ArmedForces, avoided being drafted for Vietnam thanks to a dubious bone spurs diagnosis, publicly denigrated Sen #JohnMcCain’s wartime heroism & was quoted [multiple sources] privately dismissing #veterans as “suckers” & “losers” (which he denied).

Veterans and suppporters blockade US Capitol steps demanding troops and ICE off our streets

#veterans #civildisobedience #trump #parade

On the 13th of June, 24 hours before Trump's parade, Veterans and their supporters held a press conference at the US Supreme Court. They demanded that troops be removed from policing protests and ICE be sent home. They demanded that the money being spend on Trump's parade be spent instead on the people. They specifically demanded "Benefits not Bullshit." Note that Trump and DOGE are gutting the Veteran's Administration,

Speakers reminded current active duty servicemembers that their oath was to the Constitution not Trump and that unlawful orders must be defied. The broader message for current servicemembers was "it's time to choose."

The presser served as a diversion. Immediately afterwards protesters marched from SCOTUS onto the Capitol grounds. The "bicycle rack fence" barricade was breached and protesters charged the East steps, successfully occupying the steps.

During or immediately after the charge one person was apparently either thrown down the steps or tackled by cops on the concrete and injured. Once that situation settled down, things stabilized.

This proved to be a classic Capitol Hill civil disobedience. An estimated 60 people were arrested. Trump's threats of "very heavy force" turned out to be a load of hot air at least as far as this day before protest was concerned.

There’s no social justice without disability justice.

You can’t defeat fascism unless you also work to defeat eugenics. They’re too intricately linked.

Every day it seems we sink to a new low.

Today an 80 year old veteran was arrested protesting Trump’s military parade.

The first thing they did after handcuffing him?

Took away his mobility aid.

This is violence against disabled people.

Our accommodation tools and assistive devices are necessary for survival.

This is why many disabled people don’t feel safe protesting, and why disabled immigrants are in grave danger when grabbed by ICE.
