@AngusW None of the books (checked 3) I have even dare to mention the differences between male and female Red kite. At a stretch they do mention how you can tell juveniles and young adults apart from older ones.

Possibly the female have slightly darker colours, and is somewhat heavier (but I never have scales around when out in the field 😜).
