@iris_meredith @jalcine @anildash It’s cultish behavior. Salvation is at hand! If you refuse the Machine God you face eternal doom! Don’t you want to be saved?
@kevinriggle @iris_meredith @jalcine @anildash yeah, the structure of the whole thing is really disturbing. both the machine rapture part, and that, yeah, speaking as someone who's been running online social spaces for a long time, the shape of the public conversation about it feels super astroturf-y
@kevinriggle @iris_meredith @jalcine yeah I don’t know why this post couldn’t have been “here are some things I am doing with this tool”. Like… Simon Willison does that every damn day, like a normal person. And then he says “and here are the fucked up things about the company that makes that tool”. Like a normal person!
@anildash @iris_meredith @jalcine yeah like I’m super curious to hear how people are using LLMs at the object level, how they get composed into other systems. You know, like normal software. I’m super uninterested in being browbeaten like somebody’s a carnival huckster
@anildash @iris_meredith @jalcine “Step right up! STEP RIGHT UP! To Machina the All-Knowing, Machina the All-Seeing! Machina the All-Understanding! Tell her your problems! Maybe she’ll answer them!! All for only ten cents a question!”
@anildash @kevinriggle @iris_meredith @jalcine
I don’t understand why “the fucked up things this company does make me not even wanna try what the tool they sell is good for” is not an acceptable position.
@janl it is, but it makes for less engaging influencer content @anildash @kevinriggle @iris_meredith @jalcine
@janl @anildash @kevinriggle @iris_meredith @jalcine actions speak louder than words
