Surprised at how usable the Mastodon app is. The followers count seems to lag on iOS but still impressed at how much good engineering has been done here.
When I was a kid I wrote a chat app on the Dartmouth College time sharing system. It was called “Echo” and I used it as a swap-in replacement for the default app “Excalibur”. Everyone hated it.
So I have a personal appreciation for any app that can do this. Actually making federation work is pretty impressive.
