It feels like the goal of the past 20+ years if distributed computing should have been to move the base abstraction away from “server”.
I’m sort of (ugh) “subtooting” the Fediverse here after seeing an argument about whether the Internet Archive should be allowed to archive posts, and whether permissions should be managed at the server “robots.txt” level or account level. However…
In general the idea that in 2022 we’re still spinning up servers with an entire OS just to handle the simple problem of shipping around tiny blog posts is kind of crappy, even if it is backed by amazing cloud infrastructure.
You have to give the Ethereum folks credit for actually figuring out how to deploy autonomous software. It may cost $18 to run the equivalent of a 14-line Python script but it actually works.
