Hello everyone! As those of you who follow me are probably aware by now, as of tomorrow I will be spending my first official day in homelessness status again for the second time in my life. I do have funds to stay in a motel for a short time, but as to how long depends on how much I can afford to pay, and the time it takes to find somewhere permanent. I really detest asking for help because I feel very embarrassed and humiliated by doing so. But my government assistance check will only go so far. I am working diligently with several different homeless crisis organizations who are actively helping me find a stable and secure place to live. However, as we all know, nothing happens overnight. And they do not provide emergency housing accommodations. So if anyone is able or inclined to help out with a donation to keep a safe and secure roof over my head, or even just a meal, it would mean the world. Even if you are not able to help out financially, boosts would also be greatly appreciated, and they are completely free. My username on PayPal is InsaneAtheist. I appreciate all the outpouring of support I've received since I became aware that my homelessness was imminent. All my fellow Mastodonians are such awesome people. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all your support, in whatever capacity you are able to help. #Support #CrowdFund #Crowdfunding #Housing #Crisis

This instability doesn’t just show up in headlines — it affects real lives.

A healthcare policy that exists today could vanish after the next election. Protections for marginalized communities are always at risk. Climate policies get reversed. Even long-established rights, like reproductive autonomy, have been undone with a single court ruling.

What this creates is more than political whiplash. It creates anxiety, distrust, and disillusionment. People begin to lose faith in a system that can be undone overnight. They grow more cynical, more tribal, more willing to support authoritarian leaders who promise “order” over democracy.

The hunger for consistency — for something permanent — becomes so strong that people are willing to trade freedom for the illusion of stability.

We need to talk about this. Because until we build institutions with real staying power, the U.S. will keep feeling less like a stable democracy — and more like a swinging pendulum.

"We simply don't have enough nurses to provide the level of care our patients need and deserve. It's not safe, and it's not fair - for patients, their whānau, or the staff trying to care for them. We've raised concerns time and time again, but nothing changes - so now we're taking action to stand up for safer care."

In Broken, Graeme #Turner provides a reality check for those who imagine the #academic life is one of privilege and leisure, laying bare the enormous challenges and lack of hope experienced by many in academia. He unearths the foundations of this #crisis, then explains how the solution lies in an overhaul of the one-size-fits-all approach to #UniversityFunding, the establishment of genuine full-time career paths, and the formation of an independent body to ensure our university system serves the national interest in both #teaching and #research, rather than the ferocious competitiveness of the marketplace.

Above all, we need to jettison the current #economic focus on #education, and re-embrace the idea that higher learning is a fundamental #PublicGood —and should be funded as such.
