Yellow warning for thunderstorms over Scotland and then later also Northern Ireland. Plus it’s to be 17°C at 05:00 in the morning. Damn.

The storms will be hit and miss, but the warning is in place as any that do form will drop a lot of rain in a short time. Local flooding possible.

Happy days. The BBC is reverting back to using The Met Office for weather forecasts and climate data. The previous Government made the BBC outsource its weather services and The MeteoGroup won via lowest bidder bullshit.

The public service broadcaster should be partnering with the national weather service.

The BBC has plans for a new partnership with the UK's Met Office.

Director General Tim Davey says: "The collaboration will provide UK and global audiences with the most trusted and accurate weather information, helping more people stay safe, thrive and understand the wonder of weather."

In 2018 the BBC's weather provider changed from the Met Office to Meteo Group following competitive tender.

Taking this lunchtime to finish off the docs for a bit of fun code I've been working on in free time for a week or so:

metoffice-datahub-lib for emacs (github.com/twitchy-ears/metoff)

Basically they're retiring the older APIs, the new datahub is working but still being documented and should be stable for the next however many years.

You can get a free account for 360 calls a day which is plenty and then have forecasts in your modeline and buffers, reasonably customisable.
