Tesla drops ‘FSD’ from name of its driver-assist tech in China

(tesla's fsd) still needs more knowledge about Chinese roads in general, because it kept mistaking bike lanes for right turn lanes

People keep putting fake walls in front of Teslas

In the tesla fanboy's video, the Tesla Model Y with confirmed FSD (in this case, version 12.5.4.2) didn’t fare better than Rober’s — he had to manually stop the vehicle before it crashed into the fake wall that, to my human eyes, doesn’t look quite as convincing.

Tesla fans expose Tesla’s own shadiness in attempt to defend Autopilot crash

A group of #Tesla fans inadvertently exposed Tesla’s shadiness regarding crashes involving Autopilot by attempting to claim the ADAS was not active in a crash test

It was not only active, but it also disengaged itself less than a second before the crash—a known shady behavior of Tesla’s Autopilot

Tesla Autopilot drives into Wile E Coyote fake road wall in camera vs lidar test

In simple words, the lidar sensors didn’t care what was painted on the wall, they only cared that it was a wall, while Tesla's cameras-only system can be tricked.

Electrek · Tesla Autopilot drives into Wile E Coyote fake road wall in camera vs lidar testBy Fred Lambert

Yesterday I drove a car compliant with the new EU "Intelligent" Speed Adaptation directive. Good car, but, fuck me, the beeping!

It's like being a teenager again with your mum constantly telling you off. You immediately tune out all the car's beeps. Yeah. What-EVER!

EU really fucked this regulation up. It nags the same amount if you go 1km/h over the limit as 30 or even 100.

Tesla Vs. The Rest: Be Very Careful Choosing Your Next EV

The choice for many EV buyers in 2025 will be among competing autonomous driving technologies. Choose carefully. Very carefully.

FSD in certain scenarios it exhibits bizarre — and dangerous — behavior.

Tesla Tops Fatal Accident Rates In New Study

Misleading labels like “Full-Self Driving,” touchscreen-centric controls and driver complacency have raised growing concern over safety.

Tesla Model Y has a fatal accident rate of more than three times the average car over a billion miles driven. The Model S is twice more likely to result in a fatal crash than the average car.

@randahl Imagine this (I don't have to, the speed limit system in my 2020 Mazda 3 does it repeatably). You are going at normal motorway speed, 120km/h and you pass some speed limit signs for the off ramp which are, say, 40km/h. With speed limit *warning*, this is annoying. But with *enforcement*, this is fucking dangerous, because your car could start braking from 120 to 40. For no reason. Add heavy traffic to the scene. Yeah.

Who's liable? The driver. Sucker.

@randahl The fundamental problems are the lack of certainty about the vehicle's intended path / trajectory / route (ultimately this is only inside the driver's head), lack of absolute precision of the vehicle, the eternal problem that alls maps is always out of date, the limitations of computer sign recognition (with all the difficulties of multiple signs for different lanes, sun angle, road dirt, weather, roadworks, etc).

The technology is good, but the driver still knows better.

Replied in thread

@randahl I have worked on this technology including a technical trial by the British government 20 years ago.

Speed warning is one thing and I'm all for that. As anybody knows who's driven a car with this "Intelligent" Speed Adaptation knows - the system often gets it wrong. It often gets confused by signs for other lanes on highways, in roadworks, etc. In these cases speed enforcement by a flawed system is Not Good & not helping.
