Wie KI die Open-Source-Entwicklung verändert
KI wirkt an vielen Stellen auf die Entwicklung von Open-Source-Software ein. Sie bietet Chancen, stellt die Community aber auch vor neue Herausforderungen.
How AI is changing open source development
AI has an impact on the development of open source software in many areas. It offers opportunities, but also presents the community with new challenges.
@ericgoldman I was also fascinated by @fukami's monstre spreadsheet on legislative definitions across ~30 different EU acts, shown at #FOSDEM 2025 ("Legislative overlay: anticipating and navigating through regulatory vectors", https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-5325-legislative-overlay-anticipating-and-navigating-through-regulatory-vectors/).
My FrOSCon talk "Samsung Camera to Mastodon Bridge" has been accepted!
It will be a longer version of the lightning talk https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-5026-samsung-camera-to-mastodon-bridge/ with more reverse engineering, more python/flask code, and more live demo!
Should I present a topic at FediCon?
Hoping to attend FediCon this year! It's fantastic that it's in Canada, which makes it much more convenient for the North American crowd than FOSDEM.
I usually do some pretty technical topics, but would something more high level be better?
Earlier this year I presented a talk on a way to fix the "quiet fedi" problem. Maybe I'll fix federated private group chats this time around
I just uploaded a Blogposting about my trip to FOSDEM in February.
At FOSDEM 2011 I attended the talk of @ossington about the #libregraphicsmagazine. I met her, @aiscarvalho and @rlafuente afterwards. It was a pleasure getting to know them and meeting them at FOSDEM the following years.
The talk:

The video:

I cannot tell what gem the libre graphics magazine is.
They lived the future 15 years ago.
You have to read to understand:
This here is the project page for #fediscovery.
I understand it to be an optional, decentralised spec for users on participating fediverse server instances to opt-in to discovery of search services.
I won’t respond to comments about whether you think search is a good or bad idea - the page has a video, link to spec and the slides presented at #FOSDEM.

@psvensson Thank you. Very glad you liked it.
It's partly based on a talk I gave at #FOSDEM a few years ago... The video is in the link in the article, if you are curious.
Well, that cat is kinda out of the bag. I sent messages publicly to two accounts instead of private by accident. Deleted as they contained direct registration links
#ConfConf is an unconference about organizing conferences. Also see https://confconf.org
It's organized by four #FOSDEM people, myself included.
We are focusing on OSS and hacker conferences, and in particular for the first edition it's invite-only.
If you believe you fit the profile feel free to poke me and we can have a look
It has been a long time since the famous #HackerTrain to #FOSDEM 2025 β run
<https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-5311-hackertrain-to-fosdem-2025-a-k-a-the-beta-run-/>
but things are moving slowly forward.
We now have:
• https://codeberg.org/HackerTrain – for task tracking and other collaboration
• ircs://irc.libera.chat/#hackertrain and matrix:#hackertrain:kompot.si – for real-time chat (to be bridged soon)
Things are still very much grassroots, so please excuse the chaos.
HackerTrain to #WHY 2025? Maybe, it’s up to you ;)
Warmly invited to help out!
I am forever spoiled by #FOSDEM.
This is what "tech conference" in the #UK looks like. So cagey. So centered on money, and on capturing people desperate for money. This event is free to visit; usually such events are smaller and tickets cost hundreds.

Always nice to see Sailfish OS getting a shoutout from Research Engineering at the Turing in their FOSDEM 2025 recap. A small nod that means a lot in a sea of Android and iOS.
Full recap here. Great read with personal reflections and devroom gems: https://medium.com/@turinghut23/highlights-and-reflections-from-fosdem-2025-987fabd26932
I also gave a talk at #ORDEM, the open research Dev room at #Fosdem.
This was also free and online and even though the time wasn't great I appreciated that they could adjust the time for me.
This is also a talk around diversity equity inclusion.
In both instances I didn't really get a chance to network although I did meet a couple of people afterwards.
I think what happens is it's more when you see the same people two or three years running that you start to connect.

From first-timers to seasoned #tech pros, thousands of #FOSS enthusiasts joined @fosdem 2025—making it a success!
The annual event in Brussels featured keynotes, lightning talks, exhibitor stands, and more.

I was at #fosdem in 2023, and I liked Devrooms so much, I tried to get them to IndiaFOSS this year.
The #IndiaFOSS team agreed, and there's gonna be 6 devrooms (~mini-conferences) this year: AOSP/PL/Science/Policy/Data/Hardware
I will be hosting the Open Data devroom with @thej and a few more excellent folks. The CFP is now open (Deadline: 7-Jun)
We're looking for talks around Open Datasets, Open Data tooling, Data journalism etc.
Please apply/share: https://fossunited.org/indiafoss/2025/devrooms/data
As someone who was in the social web room at #fosdem I can vouch that seeing @cwebber present is an unforgettable event so if you are in Berlin, you should not miss this: https://social.coop/@cwebber/114476431709199153
