Following Val Kilmer’s death, I read that every geek should watch Real Genius, and that it is an underrated film. Having finally seen it now, to be honest, I think it is a dated, predictable, typical light-hearted 1980s goofball comedy that is too lengthy and at times boring. That doesn’t mean I didn’t like it, because I loved the mid-1980s atmosphere, wardrobes and overall sense of carelessness oozing from Real Genius. "Way ahead of ya. We can get the rights to Top Secret."

"What? That terrible movie?"

"That's the only thing we can get the rights to with our budget."

"Good grief!"

"Oh, hang on... I see here that it would be possible to get the rights to an obscure movie he played in... Two Guys, One Girl."

"It's a porno, isn't it?"

"Er... let me check... yep."

"Top Secret it is then!"

"Alright..."

(Don't get me wrong. I liked Top Secret as a kid, but I suspect I'm in the minority.)
