Making sure I'm prepared for the scheduled power outage in two weeks.

Our BYD Seal came with a vehicle-to-load adapter, which is a ~5 m long cable with a Type 2 plug on one end and a 2 outlet mains power board on the other. By itself that's only good for supplying mains power to my driveway so I also have a 30 m extra-heavy duty extension cord, plus a weatherproof power board box to protect the connection from rain.

The main reason I laid this out today was to confirm that 30 m is the right length for the extension cord, and I was pleased to find that it does reach inside our house far enough to comfortably reach our fridge, or our living room. If I now get a second 30 m extension cord I can use the other outlet on the V2L adaptor and preserve both our food and our internet connection while the power is out.

I hate ev chargers that put a hold charge on your card in this realm

There's a Nissan charger that does it for $25

Then electrify America ones that do it for $50

Literally all ev charging costs for our leaf is at most 9 or 10usd most of the period it's 5usd

Its a punishment for those who can't afford much

OK, well, I guess we'll be finding out how well our car works as a backup mains power supply.

Our BYD Seal came with a Vehicle To Load (V2L) adaptor, which takes the form of a short-ish mains cable with a Type 2 plug on one end and a power board with two 10A Australian mains outlets on the other. To go with that I already have a 30 metre long extra heavy duty extension lead, and a weatherproof power board enclosure. With our car parked in our driveway at the front of our house I can plug the V2L adaptor into the car, plug the extension lead into the adaptor, protect the junction from rain with the enclosure, and run the extension lead through to the back of our house where our fridge freezer is.

The fridge freezer is the thing I most want to keep powered, but Wednesdays are usually a working from home day for me so I might also try to keep the internet and our working-from-home monitor, etc. running too.

I'm currently wondering whether I want to get a second long extension lead so I can use both outlets on the V2L adaptor and make it a bit easier for me to get power to where I want it without resorting to daisy-chaining multiple power boards and extension leads.

I recently got a Chevy Bolt, thinking I didn't need to drive more than 90 miles any one direction.

welp, I maybe probably need to drive 120 miles one direction for an important volunteer thing.

#electricCar folks - i see all the places to search for chargers, but I would like some advice on the social norms around using chargers.

I am anxious and would probably ... get a coffee and then sit by my car for 30-45 minutes?

what stops people from just unplugging your car for giggles?

I'm getting the 20,000 km/12 month service done on my BYD Seal today, and spotted that BYD Liverpool have a couple of the new Sealion 7 there for test drives.

They're basically taller Seals, but if you're into the SUV thing I could see how they'd appeal.
