#TheInternetIsCrack episode 4. Some discussion on AI, with some interesting factoids mentioned that some outside of tech communities might not be aware of and some inside too for robotics, though I feel there wasn't as much questioning of the incentives and real potential as there could've been.

I'm going to leave this #Pluralistic article as complementary material: https://pluralistic.net/2024/07/25/accountability-sinks/

A note on #TheInternetIsCrack episode 5: Regarding ads on Youtube, the users *cannot* prevent the (malicious) platform from putting them.

What changes is merely who gets some ad money, which simply won't be the users in those cases.

Assuming malice from the users is incorrect, it is Youtube that is malicious.
#TheInternetIsCrack episode 3.

An episode that is mostly about coping with the web the corposcum have made, I think.

There's an unfortunate conflation highlighted between the web and the corporate web, and in particular only a few specific malware (user-abusing) platform sites. I do note positively that at least capitalism was also noted as the cause (though I don't think that observation was pushed to its logical conclusion), but there's a sense of despair in (seeming) lack of alternatives.

My main takeaway is that I'm glad I refused to use the corposcum web on principle. It seems to be an awful time for everyone who didn't refuse.

We Must Create choice!!

Those who own your data own you! In this episode, Aral Balkan exposes how billionaire corporations have seized control of the internet, turning us into products, and why reclaiming our digital rights is the fight of our lifetime.

One of the things I find more contentious with that #TheInternetIsCrack #podcast is that there is conflation of the harms of technology with the harms of capitalism and the harms of corposcum-controlled technology.

The problem with that is that while the last two are fairly tightly intertwined, the same cannot be said of the first with the latter two. The relationship is a lot more complicated and the first absent the last two is a very different matter.

For the first episode, a lot of what is discussed can be put solidly under the last category, and very little is inherent to the first. But that distinction isn't mentioned or remarked upon.
