Meanwhile, another paper: "A systematic search for trace molecules in #exoplanet K2-18 b".

The paper claims: "We find three molecules, including #DMS, which appear promising across the datasets considered.

The two molecules besides DMS are diethyl sulfide and methyl acrylonitrile, which are more complex than DMS, biogenic on Earth, and have no significant sources known beyond Earth."

And I am so sorry, but I don't believe any of this because Madhusudhan is a co-author of the paper.

Astronomen haben auf einem nahen #Exoplaneten das bisher stärkste Indiz für außerirdisches Leben gefunden. Die Gashülle der nur 124 Lichtjahre entfernten Wasserwelt K2-18b enthält das Molekül #Dimethylsulfid (#DMS) und/oder #Dimethyldisulfid (#DMDS), wie Messdaten des James-Webb-Teleskops bestätigen. Beide Moleküle gelten als #Biosignatur, weil sie auf der Erde nur von Organismen produziert werden – ein abiotischer Syntheseweg ist nicht bekannt.

for those of us who listen to Aunty's wireless channels (namely #BBC #Radio4 #R4Today and #BBCWorldService) who the Beeb clearly thinks are either too thick or too triggered by the naming of obscure chemicals, #SkyNews reports the names of these chemical indicators of the possible presence of extraterrestrial life (i.e., Life-As-We-Know-It) on an exoplanet:

@jupiter_rowland OFC this is also due to the fact that the last 50+ years no serious attempt at teaching #TechLiteracy has been done anywhere in a formal matter.

Luckily #Education and #Knowledge isn't monopolized and Initiatives like @cryptoparty / #CryptoParty exist that basically get #TechIlliterates to a level that if they follow up what has been trained don't act as "#UnofficialEmployees" of #NSAbook et. al.

Either way, we'll all have to take part in making the world better, even if that meremy means not contribute to #Enshittification...

OFC that is a constant struggle.
